Day +17 October 9

Elle is doing fine.  She doesn't have any new issues.  The dialysis circuit was changed today so we changed her body dressings and 2 nurses and 2 docs gathered around her bed again to watch for reaction to the change.  Her blood pressure had been lower most of the day, so Dr. Cooy (ICU attending) decided to change her blood pressure medicine from Epinephrine to Norepinephrine to make her vessels squeeze better and thus bring her pressures back up.  It worked her MAPs are better so she will perfuse better.  Her nurse also put an esophageal temperature probe in to get a reliable core temperature since her armpits are TORE up.  Interestingly, her core temp reads lower than her axillary.  The nurse explained this as septic response (how her body is responding to her infection).  One thing we are realizing is that her body tends to do the opposite of what we expect.

After spending the day with her, and making sure she was stable, grandma spent part of the evening with the baby and s, Chloe, and I were able to spend a little time together; always a treat. We got groceries, stood on a dock in Lake Calhoun in the night with the sailboats bobbing near us...beautiful, and made a frozen pizza. It was a good day and night overall.

Chloe made this in Blessing Place

When she got dressed this morning, she told her grandma, "I'm a teenager!"

  3. Barbara just told me about this blog . . . I am SO GLAD to hear that Elle seems to be holding her own with this. I am sure with all the prayers coming your way, she will continue to improve, even with all that she must overcome. I was glad to hear that you are trying to take mini-excursions to different locales (even if it's just the grocery store) to see and do something different for a while, so you can restore your psyche from the pressures of this intense and stressful time. I'll bet the fall colors are REALLY wonderful there, as it's probably already pretty crisp and cold at night especially. We just had a week of mid-70s here and yesterday and today were in the low 80s. Next week it's supposed to go back into the 70s again. So, the trees are starting to turn color here now.

Remember that we are all praying for you and Elle and you truly are in our thoughts. God Bless you all and keep you all safe and in renewed faith that God HAS A MIRACLE for Elle.

    Warmest regards and love,

Were pulling for you here in Sactown.
God's love is with you always and know that "someone" is looking over Elle's shoulder all the time. You're such an amazing mother.
